Happy 2015 Progressives!! The Glass is Half Full
I thought I’d wait till holiday festivities were over to write my first 2015 post. While there is plenty to be grime about given the lost Dems took in the November mid-term election – there is reason to also celebrate. Here is why. This past year under President Obama, per Reuters, “…the Dow climbed above the 18,000 mark for the first time in history and the S&P 500 set a new intraday record after an unexpectedly strong report on economic growth.” Try to spin that Right-wingerJ. We have had over 57 months of straight jobs growth; the administration closed out its largest investment from 2008 – the bailout of GM and Chrysler. So as a reminder less we forget, Obama saved GM and Chrysler. The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) went into its second year and is doing great with new additions. Add all the above to the great November jobs report and its been a great 2014 for progressives.
GM one of our car companies that Obama chose to save paid it debt back; oil is at its lowest in years. As you all know, Obama used his constitutional right (in spite of Ted Cruz’s lies to the contrary) to take executive action on immigration. The Republicans have set the stage for a big fight over immigration in Feb. We’ll see how that goes. One sure outcome is greater solidarity amongst Latinos and non-Latino supporters of a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million out there. I predict we will see more middle class white turn to the progressive view as they better understand that the Right-wing just does not really have job creation in mind. Just look at what they plan to do for their first act – Keystone pipeline as their job creation solution! Few permanent jobs will come of this nor will the oil be for US consumption. Up till now the Right-wing media lie machine has done great in getting its base to believe the Dems don’t care about them but that will change just enough over time to make a difference in the next election. I predict the Affordable Care Act will get better and stronger even in the face of Republicans trying to “make it better” with their BS bills that are sure to come. How’s that for a Nigerian, Muslim, Socialist, Dictator the Right loves to make him out as?
So progressives, the glass is half full, maybe more than half full. That said, there is much work to be done in the area of law enforcement, civil rights, voter rights, and women’s’ rights and climate. Racism needs to be attacked to reduce its impact not only on minorities but on our society as a whole for all Americans can contribute to our collective well being. The next two years will be exciting and full of progressive achievements in spite of Right wing shenanigans:)

Institutional racism. Rampant income inequality. A broken justice system. America may never be a great society
